Have you ever managed to completely avoid something, or a genre of something, because you just know you’ll be terrible at it? Or rather just assumed, without bothering with the try/fail nonsense, to forgo a project based on your (imaginary) future failure? I have; I do it all the time. Think back for a minute; have you ever seen a croissant on this blog? A Danish, perhaps? Pain au chocolat? A nice loaf of thick-sliced bread, maybe dinner rolls? No? No, you haven’t. Because I’m scared of two things: yeast-based baking and failure. Because in my life, the former typically begets the latter. And I do not embrace failure with open arms. Continue reading →

I know, right? Hard to resist that title. We may as well get the giggles out of the way now, because the name of this cookie is one of the reasons this cookie stood out to me. The recipe lives in the pages of the Sarabeth’s Bakery Cookbook, which I received as part of my Mother’s Day gift this year. In a twist of irony, I also received a top-of-the-line jogging stroller. It is my favorite thing ever right now, because the weather here is beautiful. I requested it (don’t worry; Mr. Table is still with us) because one of the cons of food writing is sneaky weight gain, and I do what I can to counteract it. Wow: New Year’s Eve already. I know everyone says that, but really…September was what, maybe three days ago? I don’t know how everyone’s fall/winter goes, but between lots of birthdays in October, my annual trip to Nashville to visit my sister, and the fall/winter holidays, it’s been one rush after another. In a good way, really, but busy. I look forward to the January slowdown. By now, I’ve completely blown any good eating habits I’ve developed over the past year and am aching for a normal, nothing-too-exciting routine. Continue reading →

You people are so nice! As you may know, blogging is a relatively new thing for me, and I was intent on getting a little library of recipes out here before I really began to promote it.
