Let’s hear it for the fruits! Just in general, really, summer fruit has been stellar this year. I’m not thrilled with the temperatures this summer, but if it’s even partially responsible for the abundance of fruit  we have, I guess I’ll take it. I’ve had more juicy, perfectly ripe fruit than you can shake a thermometer at, and although I’m looking forward to the fall when things cool off a bit and I can dig into root vegetables and leaf-collecting with the Wee One, I’ll miss the cornucopia of delicious fruits (and vegetables) this summer has brought me. A special thank you goes out to my garden, which has STILL not died in the heat. Garden, you’re the best. thank you for making me think, on our best days, that I could manage a modest farm. And so my love affair with stone fruit continues.

This will be a brief post, as I am feverishly working through my baking and cooking experiments over the past few weeks to get them out to you. At the same time, I’m packing for my summer vacation, which means I’m knee-deep in potential outfits and iTunes is working overtime trying to find me the best possible summer beach music for our annual vacation soundtrack. People, listen up right now: you MUST make this cake. I implore you. Make it for yourselves, make it for friends and loved ones, make 10 of them, but just do it already before the nectarines revert back to being the rock-hard, scentless garden stones they are the rest of the year. I’m going to dispense with my usual fluffity-fluff and get to the point, because the longer you spend reading this, the less time you have to get nectarines while they’re in season, which means you’ll only be able to make 15 of these cakes and not 20.
