My Wee One headed back to school this morning…for her second year of preschool.
She’ll be 4 years old this week.
When I started this space, she was just a baby; as in literally a baby wobbling around on pudgy legs that had just learned how to walk.
If you need me, I’ll just be right over here inside this cake. It’s not a big bundt – only a 6 cup bundt, more of a petite teacake – but I think if I try really hard, I could curl myself up in it and live there for a few days. So, yes; the winter has gotten to me a little bit. Everything is a little muted after the holidays are over, and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it can be really nice. I distinctly remember the first time I saw the first Baked cookbook in the bookstore years ago, but I can’t for the life of me remember why, specifically. But it struck me somehow. I didn’t take it home with me that day, but I thought about it after I had left. And thought about it some more. And fell in love with it from a distance because I had seen what was inside and it felt like something about it was just, well…different from all the other baking-centric cookbooks I’d seen. There may be nothing more luxurious than waking up on a saturday or sunday morning and baking something you intend to eat for breakfast. It feels like a holiday without all the fuss that holidays sometimes bring. It’s even better when the thing you plan on baking doesn’t involve any special ingredients, special mixing techniques, or reading and rereading the recipe 34 times to make sure you’re doing it right.
