you’re invited: valentine’s day.

February 14, 2013

you're invited: valentine's day.

Although certainly I’ve thrown better parties than this, I thought you’d like a little peek at our day. I know lots of you are busy cooking big fancy meals, getting ready to go out this evening, or putting final the final swirls on desserts built for two. It sounds tempting, but my valentine has simpler tastes. I like to make her happy, so we are spending day doing things she wants to do.

Like decorating valentine’s day cookies.

Also, carefully placing sock monkey stickers on felt hearts.

It was nice out, so we went to the park for a little bit (properly bundled, of course)

We’re planning to split this piece of cake later (recipe coming soon).

you're invited: valentine's day.

Even Lottie got in on a little V-Day bon-bon action.

So as you can see, we’re far too busy to do a proper dessert for the blog today. Certainly a few glances through my Google Reader tells me that everyone else has that completely covered, so I trust you’re prepared and not still looking for things to make. I hope all of you are having as delightful a day as we’re having here, and I’ll see you very soon with a new recipe. Happy Valentine’s Day!

xox,

Shannon (and the Wee One)

Sock monkey sticker crafts! I’m so jealous. Happy Valentine’s Day, Shannon!

It was fun. and relaxing. I daresay sticker crafts and felt are compelling reasons to have children. :) It gives you a pass for almost any inane, childish thing you want to do regularly.

sounds like the cutest, most relaxing, and most enjoyable valentine’s day ever <3
That cake looks pretty amazing, and I'm dying over wee one's striped pants. ADORABLE!
Also, loving that monkey valentine. It's pretty amazing.

girl, the rainbow pants are the BEST, i know! Every time i go to Target, or H&M or something, I think “why aren’t these clothes available in adult sizes?” They should be. I want to dress like a toddler SO BAD most days.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, lady! Looks like you’ve had a great day! I

you too, Brianne! I hope you and Kevin had a lovely one as well. Tiny holiday season (chinese new year, grammys, v-day, etc) is almost over, it seems. I just have the Oscars and then i’ll have to wait until Easter to have another food party. :)

At first I thought your monkey stickers were cookies and I was blown away! Oh well, I still think your cake looks really really good. And did you make that sheep? I was on Etsy recently and I was stunned by the incredible felted animals. Happy Valentine’s Day!!

If those had been decorated cookies, I would be trying to find work as a professional cookie decorator somewhere. That would be awesome if i had that sort of skill! Sadly, no; i had a bad cookie decorating day. We had fun, but it wasn’t my finest hour – certainly not monkey-worthy.
I did not, rather, it was handmade FOR me by Rachael a.k.a Movita Beaucoup, who is a dear friend of mine. She made it for me for this past October for my birthday, and she is a beautifully crafted sheep. She’s got some examples of her work on her website; go check them out, they’re adorable. someday i’d love to learn how to felt things.

What a sweet day of sweet activities:) Our Valentine’s dessert was a box of ‘turtle’-flavored pudding – A LIMITED EDITION HOLIDAY FLAVOR FROM CHRISTMAS!!! – which was incredible and almost tasted boozy, it was that decadent. Considering I didn’t leave work until quarter to 7, I think we did pretty well!

Looking forward to that yummy chocolate cake;)

OMG i love limited edition box puddings! It’s weird i say that, i know, but i tried the limited edition pumpkin pie pudding this year and it was so good! It was a thanksgiving/november one…makes you wonder what they do for the spring/summer holidays? Now i’m going to keep watch.

Oops, I’m a little late, but Happy Valentine’s Day to you and the Wee One! Sounds like you had a perfect day together :)

    • Reply shannon February 20, 2013 at 3:17 pm

be late all you want to: i know it’s the curse of the google reader, and we all fall victim to it one time or another. :) Happy v-day to you too! We had a nice little day together, considering the both of us were not 100% feeling good. Although sometimes a day with basically no expectations are the best sort. :)

Best Valentine’s post ever. You, the Wee One and Lottie sure do know how to rock a holiday right proper like. 2.0 and I ate massive burgers to mark the occasion – not as cool as sock monkeys and cake, but a close 2nd if I do say so myself…

    • Reply shannon February 20, 2013 at 3:20 pm

oh lordy, massive burgers?!? sounds like you and 2.0 aren’t too shabby at rocking valentine’s day, either. next time, you’re both invited over for sock monkeys and cake.

These cookies are so so cute! Love them. :) And, the sock monkey stickers! Awesome!

    • Reply shannon February 20, 2013 at 3:21 pm

thanks sara! They were fun for both of us to do together, even though one of us lost interest and then other one’s decorating skills were lacking this particular day. :) aren’t those sock monkey stickers great? she had the best time making her valentine with them (as did i.).

Hi there – lovely cookies and your daughter is adorable. Looks like a great Valentine’s Day. I would definitely like the recipe for that chocolate cake. ; )

Hi, Monica, and thank you! It was a lovely day, and i’ll be busy typing that cake recipe up next (it was a good one). :) Hope your day was great as well.
